PYP Literacy Coordinator & Student Support Department Head
Hannah Fernweh is a life-long learner from Western New York State and received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Special Education and Spanish from SUNY Geneseo. After beginning her teaching career as a classroom teacher in a Spanish/English bilingual program, she went on to receive her bilingual education teaching extension and her Master’s in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Nazareth College. After 6 years working with Spanish speakers, some of whom had special needs, she spent time as an English as an Additional Language Teacher with children from all over the world, all in the Rochester, New York area.
She and her husband married almost two years ago and took a new name together, Fernweh. The name reflects their German heritage and means “a longing for far off places.” Now, they have decided to embrace a new culture together here in Shenzhen where they can explore new people, languages and, especially, food! They plan to eat their weight in dumplings each year…Hannah loves to meet new people, cook, knit, play the violin (loudly and off-key), hike, and read books about history, new places, and new ideas. She also loves to share her passion for learning and building a growth mindset with all of the children she works with and she is so excited to support the ISNS team.
