ART & DESIGN

Junior Choir (Grades 1-2) is a group where students from Grade 1 and 2 learn how to sing, showcase their singing talents and gain self-confidence on stage. There is a limit of 20 - 40 students. This group meets on Tuesdays and Fridays at lunch recess in the Early Years multifunction room (E104). Auditions will be held on Sept 5th and 8th.

Junior Dance Club (Grades 2-4) is a fun opportunity for students of ALL LEVELS to learn how to dance jazz and hip-hop. Classes will consist of a warm-up, choreography, and a fun activity to end. Students should be willing and ready to learn, and be open-minded about new dance styles. This club has a limit of 15 participants; rehearsals will take place Wednesday during the PYP lunch hour from 11:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. in the Early Years (EY) Gym (E101).

Intermediate Choir (Grades 3-5) is a group where students will experience the joy and discipline involved with collaborative singing and performance. There is a focus on two-part singing. Please note, space is limited. Students need to audition to be a part of the choir. This group meets on Friday’s from 11:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. and also on Tuesday afternoons from 3:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. in the Auditorium located on the fifth floor. Students need their own transportation home after the Tuesday afternoon rehearsal.

Beginner Band (Grades 3-5) is a group where young students can learn a new instrument. The instruments on offer are flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, and percussion. To join, students previous experience is not necessary. This group has a limit of 20 available spots. Beginner Band will meet on Thursday’s from 11:30 a.m. 12:15 p.m. and on Monday afternoons from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the DP Music room (T603).

Intermediate Band (Grades 4-6) is a group where students can continue learning a band instrument previously learned. Instruments include flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, French horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, and percussion. At least one-year experience is required. This group meets on Monday’s from 11:30 a.m. 12:15 p.m. and Thursday afternoons from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the DP Music room (T603).

Chinese Ensemble (Grades 3-12) is a group where students play Chinese traditional instruments in an ensemble setting. At least 2 years of experience is required and an audition may be necessary. This group meets as a whole on Monday’s after school from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Auditorium. PYP students will meet on Tuesday’s at lunch from 11:30 a.m. 12:15 p.m. in the piano room and MYP and DP students will meet on Wednesday during lunch from 11:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. in the piano room.

Pipa class (Grades 3-12), if you are interested in the Chinese traditional instrument Pipa and you wish to learn how to play this instrument, please join us for the Pipa class. PYP students (Grades 3-5) will meet on Wednesday’s during lunch time from 11:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. and MYP/DP students (Grades 6-12) will meet on Thursday’s during lunch from 11:45 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. Please note, that all student require their own instrument.

Senior Choir (Grades 5-12) is a group where students continue to develop their vocal skills and enjoy the art of singing. At least 1 year of experience is required and performance experience is preferred. Space is limited and students are required to audition to be a part of the senior choir. The group will meet on Monday afternoons from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. and on Wednesday’s during lunch in the PYP Music room (T109).

Senior Dance Club (Grades 5-12) is a group for students to gain confidence in dance and performance through hip hop and jazz. There is opportunity for other dance styles to be introduced throughout the year if there is interest. We recommend students have a little experience in any style of dance but it is not necessary. An audition may be required and students should be willing and ready to learn, and be open-minded about new dance styles and choreography. This club has a limit of 20 participants and is a full-year program. Rehearsals will be Tuesday’s after school from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. in the Drama Room (T601).

Concert Band (Grades 5-12) is a group where students continue playing their instrument in a challenging setting. Styles of music range from classical, jazz to popular, and so on. Instruments include, flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, saxophone, French horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, and percussion. Acceptance is dependent on a successful audition.  This group meets on Tuesday’s from 11:30 a.m. - 12:20 p.m. and Friday afternoons from 3:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. in the DP Music room (T603).

Stage Band (Grades 6-12) is a modern music group that focusses on popular music by using guitars, drums, and vocals to create music that all can enjoy. If you have formal training (at least 2 years) this could be the band for you. This group meets on Tuesday’s from 11:45 a.m. - 12:20 p.m. and Friday afternoons from 3:30 - 4:45 p.m. in the MYP Music room (T602).

Senior Drama Club (Grades 9-12) is a new group at ISNS for students interested in furthering their knowledge and skills in different genres of drama and theatre, as well as participating in more polished and formal performances. Students will have an opportunity to learn about technical theatre including lighting, sound, stage make-up, stage management, etc. This club has a limit of 20 participants, and it is a full-year program. No experience is required, just an open-mind and positive attitude! Rehearsals will take place Mondays during lunch from 11:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. in the Drama Room (T601).

Art Enrichment Club (Grades 4-5) will offer opportunities to students who want to have more independent studio time in the Visual Arts. Project explorations will vary each term. All creative students are welcome to join but be prepared to commit one day a week to attend. Materials are provided by the instructors. There is a limit of 10 students. This group will meet on Monday from 3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.)

Art Enrichment Club (Grades 6-9) will offer opportunities to students who want to have more independent studio time in the Visual Arts. Projects will vary and are based upon student interest with teacher supervision and opportunities to participate in community Visual Arts based events. All creative students are welcome to join but be prepared to commit one day a week to attend. Materials are provided by the instructors. There is a limit of 15 students. This group will meet on Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Yearbook Club (Grades 8-12) will offer opportunities to students who are interested in helping design and create the 2017-2018 ISNS Yearbook. We are asking for only committed students to join, and weekly attendance is required. This club will meet Thursday from 11:40 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

Photography Club (Grades 8-12) will offer opportunities for students to exchange ideas and explore a range of topics at all levels. Through the exploration of digital imaging and analogue processing, the photography club will give students an understanding of the concepts of basic black and white film photography, digital imaging and alternative processing techniques. There will be a limit of 8 students. This club will meet every Thursday 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Open Studio (Grades 10-12) will offer opportunities to students who want to have more independent studio time in the Visual Arts. This is aimed at high school students and is a requirement for students in the DP Visual Arts program. This activity will meet on Mondays  from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Weekly attendance is not mandatory, but at a drop-in basis. DP students are expected to attend 2 sessions per month.

Art Portfolio Preparation (Grades 10-12) will offer opportunities to students who would like to apply to an undergraduate program related to Visual Arts or Design. Students will use this time to build and seek advice on improving their portfolio. This activity meets Monday 11:40 a.m. -12:15 p.m.

Design Enrichment Club (Grades 6-12) will offer opportunities to students who are interested in improving their product design skills. The projects will be student initiated, designed and completed. The club will run for the entire year and all creative students are welcome to join however, there will be a limit of 12 students in the club. The club will meet Thursday from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
