PYP Literacy Coordinator
Byron is the Literacy Coordinator and oversees student English language acquisition at ISNS. Byron grew up in Richmond, Virginia and graduated from the University of Florida with a BA in History. After completing his Master of Elementary Education at the University of Massachusetts in 2002, Byron served with Teach for America along the Texas/Mexico border. During this six-year placement, he was the recipient of a 2005 Fulbright Memorial Fund award; he visited Japan to study the educational systems within the country. In 2010, he received a Fulbright-Hayes Award; this award enabled him to explore and observe schools through India. Between 2011 and 2015, he enjoyed his first international teacher and administrator roles at the Korea International School on Jeju Island.
In 2018, Byron was awarded his Doctor of Education in Learning, Leadership, and Community by Plymouth State University in New Hampshire. Additionally to his personal studies in academia, during his career as an educator, Dr. Prugh completed professional coursework at Columbia University (reading and writing), Harvard University (technology integration), St. Catherine’s College at Cambridge University (history), and the University of Pennsylvania (social studies). Byron is pleased to collaborate with the teachers and students and will continue to maintain the high expectations of the ISNS community for excellence in all students.
