Technology Integration Specialist
Sharing Strengthens. Maker mindsets are being empowered when James works with teachers, students, and schools. He brings techniques and formalization of their makerspace programs integrated with a community-oriented design philosophy. Living in Shenzhen since 2012, coming from San Francisco, he is using his engineering and academic mindset to organize the chaotic world of Making into a system of learnable innovation by releasing Open Source tools, hosting public meetings, and donating time to organizations in Shenzhen.
As founder of SteamHead makerspace, a USA 501c3 nonprofit that helps educators, James has taught courses in universities and in K-12 classrooms in China and the US. He has volunteered for adult professional development classes since 2002, and entered K-12 education in 2014. He worked as an engineer at Adidas, Gap, and NASA (media management, not rocket science!). In addition he obtained his B.S. Industrial & Systems Engineering degree from the University of Southern California. With all this experience and background his classrooms often make use of tools in Electronics, Digital Fabrication, and Design.
