MAP Growth tests provide immediate and accurate information about your child’s learning, it’s easy for teachers to identify students with similar scores ready for instruction in similar skills and topics, and then plan instruction accordingly. MAP Growth reports also provide typical growth data for students who are in the same grade, subject and have the same starting performance level. Each school year, students in grades three through ten take this assessment.  You will receive a report, in the portfolio section of ManageBac, showing your child’s growth, which you can review with your child’s teacher for more insight. All reports will be uploaded by September 17, 2021. The results are used to adjust the curriculum and provide additional support to teachers and students.

Student MAP testing results are reported in RIT scores (Rasch Unit). A RIT score is an estimation of a student's instructional level and measures student progress or growth in school. MAP Growth tests are unique in that they adapt to your child’s level of learning. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. This results in a detailed picture of what your child knows and is ready to learn—whether it is on, above, or below their grade level. Students from grade 3 through grade 10 write this assessment in the Fall and Spring of every school year.

The first set of bar graphs represent the average cumulative RIT scores per grade level. The maroon (District) column represents the average achievement of ISNS students. The gray (Norm) column represents the average performance of all students in Canada and various international schools, who are evaluated using the Canadian Math Standards. The second bar graph shows the average grade level performance in the Math instructional area within the Canadian Math Standards. The table shows the typical grade level scores based on international data from students who took this assessment around the world. The final graph represents the Fall 2020-Fall 2021 growth trend, average RIT score by grade and the norm RIT.

Analysis of data throughout the years has shown that ISNS students consistently perform above the Norm and those scores are progressively higher each year. This is a clear indicator of the effectiveness of the math program at all grade levels.

The Canadian Math Instructional Areas (2005-2019) include: Data Management and Probability, Patterning and Algebra, Geometry and Spatial Sense, Measurement and Number sense and Numeration. Based on the newly published curriculum guides the Canadian Math Instructional Areas (2020) are now: Data, Algebra, Spatial Sense and Number. The instructional areas have been condensed to allow for broad conceptual planning for learning.

To review your child’s MAP RIT scores and progress in these instructional areas, please refer to your child’s ManageBac portfolio.

For information regarding your child’s progress please contact their homeroom teacher in PYP or their math teacher in MYP and DP. For more information about assessment at ISNS, please contact Ms. Addie Loy (addie.loy@isnsz.com).
