Chris is originally from Ottawa, Ontario; it is the nation's capital and like Chris is very much a city of doers. After 22 years and 3 different international schools in beautiful Venezuela Chris his wife Ama (EY Physical Education Teacher) and two boys (Brandon and Dion, both now graduates of ISNS) decided it was time for a change. Chris and Ama are extremely pleased excited to be starting year number 7 with the Phoenix community. The caring community, the outstanding educators on staff combined with the excellent performance in the MYP Personal Projects, extra curricular sports and events and of course the DP make Chris especially proud and motivated to work hard to help showcase and celebrate ISNS on its 22nd year in Shenzhen!
Chris studied Outdoor Adventure Leadership at Laurentian University. This unique experience allowed Chris to work in many different careers such as: white water guide, skiing and snowboarding instructor, biking, hiking and backcountry guide for several years before returning to school for his BEd at Queen’s University. He jumped at the opportunity to teach overseas and went to Venezuela for his first international teaching experience. He has taught many subjects over the years (science, math, & geography) and held many roles but has a very strong background in both physical/health education and school leadership. He believes in both lifelong learning and sharing what he has learned and is proud of both his Master’s in Athletic Administration, his International School & Canadian School Leadership Certificates and the many presentations and workshops he has given in education and leadership over the years.
Chris is a passionate, caring, and dedicated leader; he believes strongly in having balance or harmony in his life. He strives to be the best he can at everything: being a father, husband, leader, educator, coach, friend, athlete, mentor etc. while trying to enjoy both work and play, planning and preparing for the future while trying to travel and experience life at its fullest along the way. Chris hopes that his passions and 'joi de vie' are contagious and that can enrich the lives of those around him. Chris is especially excited to be working in an IB school with a Canadian curriculum, he believes this aligns well with his personal/educational philosophies and has provided an ideal education for his own children. Chris is looking forward to meeting you and he would love to have a Conversation with you about ISNS’s Caring, Creative and Connected Community!
