Thomas Bivens

Head of Technology & Digital Learning

Thomas Bivens serves as the Head of Technology & Digital Learning at ISNS. In this role, he leads the strategic direction of educational technology and digital learning systems across the school, stewarding the Digital Media & Literacy (DML) framework and supporting teacher‑led instruction. He works in close partnership with the Media Center, academic leadership, teachers, and IT to ensure technology enhances learning in ways that are purposeful, inquiry‑driven, and centered on student agency.

Thomas holds a B.S. in Business Administration with a minor in Information Systems from Lipscomb University in Nashville, USA. Before entering education, he worked as a technology and business leader, gaining experience in systems integration, strategic coaching, and organizational design. This background informs his approach to digital learning today, particularly in how he thinks about systems, scalability, and preparing schools for a future shaped by technology and AI.

A licensed educator, Thomas has taught across multiple roles, including technology specialist and elementary homeroom teacher. This experience grounds his leadership in classroom practice and provides a deep understanding of how students learn across disciplines and developmental stages, ensuring that digital learning decisions remain closely connected to teaching and learning.

At the heart of Thomas’s educational philosophy is a belief in inquiry, curiosity, and systems thinking. He views technology — including artificial intelligence — not simply as a set of tools, but as a system students must understand, question, and help shape. Through initiatives such as the school’s robotics program, which he leads, Thomas designs learning experiences that connect digital and physical systems, empowering students to explore how technology works, why it matters, and how it can be used creatively and responsibly to address real‑world challenges.

Originally from Albuquerque, USA, Thomas is an avid student of world history and a devoted soccer enthusiast. He is also a proud parent; his daughter and son are both students at ISNS.
