Measurement of Global Citizenship at ISNS全球公民的衡量标准

According to the Center for Global Education (2013), it is imperative that students are given many opportunities to develop global citizenship competencies. These competencies transcend local boundaries and educational disciplines and are characterized by “a desire to make a difference locally, regionally, and globally” (GCE, 2013). ISNS has a focused definition of Global Citizenship, and our practices are guided by the school’s mission, vision, and core values. We aspire to create global citizen through providing a holistic education based on our grounded Canadian educational philosophy in combination with the philosophy of the International Baccalaureate programmes.

Proposed update to Global Citizenship Definition

1.We Value Collaboration (CL)

ISNS learners participate in teams by establishing and respecting relationships, through the development of trust and acting interdependently and with integrity. We co-construct knowledge, meaning and content with our peers and assume roles to support working within diverse groups. By doing so, we respect other perspectives, share ideas and opinions, and manage conflicts positively. We acknowledge our responsibility to be inclusive, build relationships and demonstrate empathy.

2. We Strive to be Communicators (CM)

We express ourselves positively when communicating with others. We respect the language culture of our peers and work to support growth and development, so everyone has a voice. We respect the points of views, experiences and opinions of others and actively work to advocate for ideas.

3. We Develop Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills (CTPS)

We work to develop high order thinking skills through inquiry. We use strategies,        diverse resources, and skills to reflect on and evaluate our learning progress. We take an active role in our learning to understand the interconnections of all aspects of the world. We tackle problems and create solutions for the betterment of society.

4. We understand the Importance of Innovation, Creativity, and Entrepreneurship (ICE)

We are curious and take opportunities to improve through all stages of the learning process. We ask meaningful questions to generate new ideas. We implement change through the creation of effective solutions, new processes, and genuine care and concern for social, ecological and economic problems locally and globally.

5. We Work to Become Self-Aware and Grow Through Self-Management (SASM)

We know the importance of self-efficacy and our ability to develop skills needed to make a difference within the world. We manage change and show resilience through challenges. We learn to express ourselves in positive ways and take responsibility for our emotions, thoughts and actions. We are caring towards ourselves and others as we develop mentally, physically and emotionally. We work to manage our time, our energy and focus to help stay engaged with our surroundings and experiences.

6. We Take Action Towards Sustainable Change and Global Citizenship (SGC)

We know the importance of the interconnectedness of all things in society, our environment and cultures. We work to be inclusive, to stamp out discrimination and overcome biases. We acknowledge the rights of others and values cultures, traditions, and customs all over the world. Our actions are responsible and responsive to the needs of the local and global community. Our personal interactions are safe whether in person or within virtual domains.
